What is IML Film?

IML (In-Mold Label) film is a type of film used in heat transfer printing, where a special type of ink, also called heat transfer ink, is applied. The image to be printed onto surfaces (such as paint cans, industrial round products, flat surfaces, silicon items, etc.) is first printed directly onto the IML film. A layer of heat transfer adhesive is then applied to the surface of the film. Finally, a heat press machine is used to transfer and adhere the printed image onto the target material.

Heat Transfer Printing Process on Products at Hyun-tech

The printing process on IML film is relatively simple and does not require the printer to have extensive experience or advanced skills like other printing methods:

Step 1: Design the image or logo to be printed on a computer using software such as Photoshop or CorelDRAW, then load the design into the printer.

Step 2: The design is printed onto the IML film. The color is printed first, followed by a white layer on top to serve as the background for the image.

Step 3: Once printed, the image is coated with a layer of heat transfer adhesive.

Step 4: Dry the film to allow the heat transfer powder to adhere to the surface of the printed image. Move the press roller to ensure the adhesive is evenly distributed across the surface.

Step 5: Use a flat heat press machine to transfer the printed IML film onto the target material. This printing method can be applied to cotton fabrics, paint can surfaces, light or dark plastics, and various other materials.
